June 1st Featured Act: The Rob Carlson Trio

Jeff Trout.  Inspired by bass legend Stu Hamm, he ran his fan site for 13 years providing updates, transcribing a couple solos and writing a few lessons. Drawing further inspiration from Frank Zappa and Philip Glass, he wrote & recorded in his home studio until joining caribbean group Dell Smart & Exit/In in 2006.   There he met Rob & Ted and continued playing with them as a trio after Rob's departure from Exit/In.

Ted Millen.  Ted has worked in Patty Larkin's Band, played blues in Paul Rishell's band, played in original bands like Cuckoo's Nest, and the King Snakes (with Rob).  Ted worked Dell Smart and Exit/In's band, performing original and cover Caribbean music.  Opened for Dr John, J Geils, Jimmy Buffet, and a slew of other world class bands over the years.

Rob Carlson.  Rob graduated from Berklee College in 1997. He focused on jazz arranging, the music of Brazil, and lyric writing. He also studied voice (8 years) with Joanne Messier (Boston Conservatory), and studied with Rich Falco and Toshi Iseda before Berklee.

Rob has been hard at work as a songwriter and performer and has opened for the following artists: Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Ronnie Earl, Roomful of Blues, James Cotton, Sugar Blue (Rolling Stones Harmonica player), Vassar Clements, Treat Her Right, Matt "Guitar" Murphy (Blues Brothers), Luther Johnson, Moses Roscoe, Jimmy Buffet at the Tweeter Center (Bud Tent).

He received two Billboard Certificate Awards for two of his songs on a blues rock CD. One tune got to number 6 on the UK Demo Chart 1991.

Rob wrote 6 tunes for the Caribbean/reggae band Dell Smart and Exit/In's latest CD: "Sure 'YA Right!" which was released July 2006. Ronnie Earl and Paul Rishell are featured on separate tracks. This CD has received airplay in Belize City, St.Thomas/Virgin Islands, LA, MD and NYC. Received good recognition from performing on FOX TV 10.

Rob also contributed lyrics and music for a Brazilian indie film
"Frontiera."  The composer's name is Zeca Barros and he works for the Secretary of Culture in Brazil.

Rob's partner in Brazil, Guilherme Vaz have started a production company called RWCSagaz. They're getting a lot of local musicians to record, which adds a lot of different styles to the music.

If anyone would like to see a score in PDF format, Rob says he can email it to you. Stylistically it's a classical/world composition.  Email Rob at tworack@gmail.com to make your request.
